 AEES Spanish Program

I am very excited to have your child studying Spanish with me. Learning Spanish not only exposes our students to another culture, but students who speak more than one language are likely to acquire a more worldly view. In addition, in a world in which globalization is becoming increasingly essential, fluency in more than one language can be a powerful career asset. The Gazette just reported that the number of El Paso County residents who speak a language other than English is up over 30%! Knowing a foreign language also enriches and strengthens a student’s understanding of English and how it works. My goal as your child’s Spanish teacher is to familiarize them with the sounds and structures of the language, teach them fundamental vocabulary and phrases, introduce them to the cultures of the Spanish-speaking world, and most importantly, have fun ! I will accomplish these goals through games, work with puppets, children’s literature and special projects. You will find their written Spanish work in their Monday folders, but the vast majority of our “work” is actually done orally with songs, games, and skits. Do not worry if your child has never taken Spanish before or if you think your child may have forgotten a lot over the summer! I always plan our lessons and activities for all proficiency levels and think you will be surprised how quickly your child learns new words and phrases in Spanish! My website will have vocabulary you can practice at home if you are so inclined, but there is no homework assigned in Spanish. I hope your child has been having as much fun in Spanish class as I have!

 About Senora Brewer

I grew up in Los Angeles and learned Spanish in middle school and high school. While attending UCLA, I studied international politics for a year at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid in Madrid, Spain. I then continued my education getting my teacher's license in elementary bilingual education and a master's degree in Applied Linguistics (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). I have taught at both the elementary and college levels for almost 30 years. My passion, though, is teaching Spanish as a second language. My husband and I moved to Colorado over sixteen years ago with our three children, all of whom attended Academy Endeavour! I enjoy reading, cooking and the challenges of gardening in Colorado.
