 MATH

Everyday Math is our math curriculum. We focus on counting up by ones and tens or from any given number. Writing the numbers is essential, too! Shapes, patterns, graphing, and place value are all introduced in kindergarten. We begin addition and subtraction with manipulatives. Number sense is stressed throughout the year.

 READING

Children begin kindergarten with a wide range of abilities. Our Succsss for All reading curriculum meets the needs of all students. KinderCorner is the first part of our reading curriculum. We focus on letter recognition, formation and sounds. We also cover concepts of print that readers need to know. KinderRoots is the second part of our reading curriculum. We begin reading 18 books that cover sequential phonetic lessons. Each child is individually assessed and second semester children can move and grow as readers as our kindergarten teachers each focus on different skills.

 SCIENCE

The FOSS science curriculum consists of four units of study: Me, Myself and Others, The 5 Senses, Sunshine and Shadows, and Wood. Hands-on activities and small-group investigations allow the students to explore and enjoy science.

 SOCIAL STUDIES

Our social studies curriculum focuses on families and communities all around. We learn about maps, globes and important historical events and people. Citizenship and learning the democratic process is also a part of our study.

 WRITING

While most writing is done in daily writing notebooks, writing is integrated in all subjects. Mini-lessons are conducted daily to meet standards and individual needs.

 SPECIALS

Specials such as art, P.E., music, Spanish, library and computer lab are offered on a rotating schedule.

 CORE PRINCIPLES

Students learn through literature, activities and discussions about the ten Core Principles of our school: citizenship, perseverance, respect, responsibility, integrity, honesty, courage, compassion, hope and excellence!
