Students learned about the small caterpillar that spends about 8 months trapped inside the shell of a seed pod before going through metamorphosis and flying away as a moth. These harmless creatures live in the Sonoran desert of Mexico and respond to heat and light to survive their harsh desert habitat.
Our students were able to hold a Mexican Jumping Bean and feel it wiggle on their hand. We had a lot of fun connecting with these unusual creatures.
Sra. Brewer bought the beans from https://www.beansthatjump.com but the beans can often be found at this time of year at the dollar store, toy stores or gift shops.
