School Entrances
Students may enter through the Main Entrance, the Edison Door on the Hampton Park/grass side or the Astronaut Door on the playground/portable side. Regular doors open at 8:05 a.m. The morning tardy bell rings at 8:15 a.m. If your usual entrance is closed, enter through the front of the school.
Students eating breakfast may enter through the green cafeteria door near the garden beginning at 7:55 a.m. Ring the doorbell for entry.
Dismissal and Supervision
Dismissal begins at 3:15 p.m., with the final bell at 3:20 p.m. Staff supervision ends at 3:25 p.m. To have your child supervised during dismissal, use the valet line or arrange for your child to wait with a staff member for a direct handoff. Parents are responsible for locating that staff member or their child.
Only kindergarten students receive a direct handoff to parents collecting them on foot. If your kindergarten student will walk to another location, meet a sibling or walk home, communicate that plan directly to the teacher. At 3:25 p.m., staff check the campus and bring unattended students to the front office for pickup.
Parents are responsible for behavior issues before 8:05 a.m. and after 3:25 p.m. School administration may intervene if an issue affects the learning environment during school hours.
Traffic and Parking
U-turns on Hampton Park Drive are illegal.
Do not double park or stop beside cars parked at the curb; this blocks traffic.
Use designated street crosswalks and require children to do the same.
Enter the parking lot only at the entrance marked “Enter Here.”
Parents must escort children across the parking lot. There is no designated crosswalk or crossing guard within the lot.
Hampton Park Drive is a city street. AEES staff cannot enforce traffic or parking violations there. Report reckless driving or illegal parking to the Colorado Springs Police Department.
Valet Pickup and Drop Off
Pull forward as far as possible, up to the sign near the small playground, so several vehicles can load or unload at once.
Remain in your vehicle. If your child needs help, signal a staff member or park and walk your child across the lot.
For help buckling a seatbelt, pull forward out of the loading zone or park in a designated space.
Walker Pickup
Any student who does not enter a vehicle in the valet line is considered a walker. This includes students whose families park on Hampton Park Drive and walk over to collect them. Pick up walkers on the Hampton Lawn.
Playground Access
Playgrounds are not available for use before school.
After-school playground use must be supervised by a parent or guardian.
The preschool/kindergarten playground is closed after school for preschool dismissal.
The main playground is reserved for the after-school childcare program, which has priority access under its rental agreement.
Champions’ designated outdoor program areas are for enrolled program participants during the assigned times. See Before and After School Care for program information.
Animals on School Property
Dogs and other animals are not permitted on district property between 7:40 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. If you bring a pet, remain on the north side of Hampton Park Drive, across the street and off district property, or keep the pet inside your vehicle. The school is not liable for negative interactions involving animals brought onto campus.
Bicycles Scooters and Other Transportation Devices
Bicycles and scooters may be parked in the racks at the back of the building. Walk them through crosswalks and on school grounds. Students are responsible for securing them with a lock. Helmets are strongly recommended; families should review bicycle and traffic safety with their children.
Skateboards, rollerblades and Heelies may not be used on school grounds or stored in classrooms. AEES does not store or charge transportation devices. Items left on school property for more than one week are considered abandoned and may be disposed of.
Bus Transportation
Review bus rules with your child and encourage cooperation with the driver. Fighting, horseplay and throwing rocks at bus stops are not permitted. Video and audio recording devices may operate on buses at any time.
For routes, fees and payment information, contact Transportation at 719-234-1410 or visit Buses and Transportation. School boundaries and walking zones are available on School Location and Maps.
