School Delays, Closures/Cancellations, and Early Releases
The school district will use all available resources to make informed decisions regarding school cancellations due to inclement weather or unsafe road conditions.
We sincerely encourage parents to use their best judgment when deciding whether it is safe for their child to attend school. If you determine that weather conditions are too hazardous, please keep your child at home.
Students who miss school under these circumstances will be allowed to make up missed work in accordance with the district’s make-up work policy.
Delays and Closures
Parents will be notified of delays or closures by email, text, or phone call based on their preferences in Infinite Campus.
Local radio and TV stations will be updated by 6:00 a.m. with delay or closure information.
A two-hour delayed start means school will begin at 10:15 a.m.
Before-school activities will be canceled.
AM preschool will be canceled.
Breakfast will not be served during any two-hour delay, including weather-related delays and Late Start PLC Fridays.
We appreciate your attention to these procedures and your cooperation in keeping all students safe during inclement weather.
Early Release Due to Storms/Weather
If a storm develops while School District 20 is in session, a decision may be made to dismiss students early for their safety. In this case, early dismissal times will be announced on local radio and TV stations.
Please ensure your child knows what to do in the event of an early storm release. Review the following procedures:
Bus riders: buses will follow their regular routes and sequence, but will operate on an early release schedule (typically two hours early).
Parent pick-up: each teacher will have a sign-out sheet for parents to check out their child.
Walkers: students who have parent permission to walk home will be allowed to do so.
We recommend discussing a clear plan with your child ahead of time to ensure they feel confident and prepared in the event of an early dismissal.
Emergency Closure Procedure
If hazardous weather or another emergency threatens the safety, health, or welfare of students or staff, the Superintendent or designee may decide to close the district for the day.
Local radio and television stations will be notified to announce the closure.
The decision will be broadcast by 6:00 a.m.
Please stay tuned to local media and ensure your contact information is up to date in the Parent Portal to receive timely notifications.
